Annual Statistics of Scientific Procedures on Living Animals, Great Britain, 2022

World Day for Animals in Laboratories – 24th April

Founded by the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) in 1979, World Day for Animals in Laboratories (WDAIL) is on 24th April . A march is organised for the following Saturday. Go to the WDAIL website for more information www.wdail.uk

On this day and during the whole of April there are additional protests and information events to inform the public that animals are still used in research to find cures for humans. That sounds crazy, right? How will it sound in 2033, 2043…..let`s hope some time in the not to distant future many more people are confused as to why we did this to animals and that we are now using non-animal methods.

Please take a look at the pages on our website www.vivisectionexposed.co.uk. What can you do to help animals in laboratories? You probably think you can`t help them, but you can! Here are some ideas for starters (see image).

3.06 million procedures were carried out on animals in laboratories Great Britain in 2021. The figure for 2022 will be released by the Home Office in July 2022. We have everything crossed that the number has reduced and only dream that it will be zero.

We have our final 2 WDAIL 2023 events today, which are at University of Brighton and University of Surrey. Watch out for a compilation video of all 9 events VE hosted for WDAIL.

Let`s make No Animals in Laboratories (N.A.I.L) happen. The day when animal testing is stopped for good! Will you join us in making that day happen?

Britches Day – 20th April

Britches, a stumptail macaque monkey, was born in March 1985. Born into a breeding colony at the University of California, Riverside in the USA. He was taken from his mother the day he was born.

His eyelids were sewn shut and a bulky, heavy electronic sonar device was strapped to his head, that made a constant screeching sound. He was now part of an experiment to test sensory substitution devices for blind people. Left alone in a wire cage with only a wire device wrapped in cloth, his surrogate “mother”. All he could do was cling to it and “nurse” from the bottle that it contained.

On 20th April 1985 Britches was liberated by animal rights activists known as the Animal Liberation Front (A.L.F). He was taken to a veterinarian who removed the black sutures from his eyes and the sonar device from his head. Over the next few months he was shown love and care.

When Britches was 5 months old he was transferred to a sanctuary in Mexico. There, a female monkey adopted him and cared for him as her own. He could now live the life he should have had from the day he was born.

“PETA published photographs, videotapes, and documents obtained by the rescuers, and a year after the raid at the university, documents filed by the university revealed that eight out of the 17 experiments from which animals were rescued were never resumed. The school also stopped permitting baby monkeys’ eyes to be sewn shut, and one instructor stopped experimenting on animals altogether.” (PETA)

Our first Double Demo day was a success!

We even closed on of the Cancer Research UK shops for the afternoon. Take a look at our video/photo compilation from 4 locations, Walthamstow, Penrith, Glasgow & Brighton. Thank you to the amazing End Vivisection Experiments & all the other activists who stood with us against animal torture in laboratories funded by the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Our shop has been upgraded!

You can now pop your items in a cart and choose to pay by card (no PayPal fees yay!). You can choose to make a donation or buy leaflets, cards, t-shirts and much more to come!

All profits are used within the group so our organisers have placards, leaflets etc making sure you experience a great protest when you join us at our events. We will maintain our shop by keeping stock of all items.

Double Demo Days!!

There are more actions than there are activists these days, so we decided to double up. Just like our leaflet for British Heart Foundation & Cancer Research UK we will be doing 2 demos on one day. Can you join us? Stand up for animals in laboratories and educate the public about the way BHF & CRUK spend donations……torturing animals in the name of research.

Most high streets have both charities shops and sometimes more than one of each in a city or town. Protesting for one hour at each shop means we can educate the public about both charities on the same day.

We will have at least 4 double demo days per year, just like we already do at universities and businesses who torture animals in laboratories. Save the dates!!

We look forward to you joining us on the above dates. If can hold a protest on a different date, let us know and we will share your event and your after event post too!

Who loves stickers?

We do!! We will be selling A7 sized coloured stickers in our shop very soon. Just waiting for delivery. We have designed them for our newest campaign – Charities that conduct or fund animal testing. Yes, you guessed right…….. BHF & CRUK!

We hope to take delivery in time for our Double Demo Day, set for Saturday 18th March, but it will be close! Watch this space for more details about our DDD events and the arrival of the stickers.

We still have stock of our double-sided BHF & CRUK leaflets in our shop if you want to do some leafleting.

Let`s make sure the public knows that animal testing still happens in 2023 by telling them the truth about vivisection and also about the non-animal models (NAMs) available. We will do our best to let you know about NAMs so you can make people aware that there is no reason for animals to be in laboratories. Follow us to see information posts on social media. The future is here now and vivisectors must stop the torture!

No animals required – the future is here!

The future has been here for some time now but because researchers are legally bound to use animals in their research to discover the causes, diagnoses, and treatment of disease and suffering in humans, non-animal methods are overlooked, unfunded and dismissed.

** CALL TO ACTION **

1. Ask your local MP to speak up on animal testing. Ask them to insist on change now, not in the future. Our taxes and more government funding should be used to fund non-animal methods.

2. Ask charities that use animals in testing, if you made a donation where would the money go and what would it be used for.

    3. When you are prescribed medication ask for an alternative that does not contain animal products. You`ll be surprised at how many alternatives there are!

    4. Think of yourself, your family & friends. If they become ill, is there a cure or a drug to save them? Why are researchers still looking in the wrong direction? Will your loved one lose their life, when they could have been saved?

    5. Demand change now. Demand human-based research. Demand gene-specific research. Demand human-relevant research. Demand it today!

    One person can make a difference. Will that person be you?
