B&K Universal Ltd, hidden away in the middle of nowhere near Hull, is a factory farm that breeds animals and sells them to laboratories worldwide where they suffer and die in pointless tests (1).

ANIMAL TESTS HAVE OVER 90% FAILURE RATE

Mice: B&K breed genetically engineered mice (2). Thousands of them are in cages stacked up inside B&K, waiting to be sent off to die. Over 2 million mice are tortured in UK labs every year (3), including notoriously horrific “forced swim tests”. Mice in laboratories are burned, drowned, violently injured, drugged, infected with viruses, injected with chemicals and poisoned to death. Mice are highly intelligent and capable of feeling pain just like humans.

Guineapigs: B&K are the only company in the UK cruel enough to breed guinea pigs for testing laboratories (4). They sell mice and guinea pigs to the military labs at Porton Down (5) where they use guinea pigs in torturous virus and biological weapons tests (6). B&K also supplied guinea pigs to be killed in heart attack experiments at Imperial College London, these were funded by the British Heart Foundation (7).

Ferrets: B&K breed and sell Ferrets for use in labs (8). B&K ship Ferrets to India for use in tests. One published experiment involved Marshall Ferrets being forced to inhale cigarette smoke for 1 hour twice daily for up to six months (9).

Dogs: B&K Universal Ltd are owned by the same company as MBR Acres Ltd the notoriously cruel and filthy puppy factory farm near Huntingdon that breeds beagle puppies for testing(10). The puppies are shipped out to laboratories at 20 weeks old in unmarked white vans, sometimes with a police escort.

B&K ship animals via Humberside Airport (11) to countries such as Japan, Portugal, South Korea, Singapore and the USA where they suffer and die in laboratories. (12). B&K are involved in the imprisonment of monkeys in laboratories. They hold an £85k public contract for health screening Macaque monkeys held captive at Porton Down, the most secretive animal lab in Britain. It’s on a military base guarded by armed soldiers (13).

There is no place in a scientifically advanced world for companies like B&K Universal. We need Non Animal Methods (NAMs) to replace the dark age non-science that is animal testing. B&K are not a charity, they are not carrying out life saving research.

They are part of Marshall BioResources, a multi-billion dollar American multinational that sells animals, animal organs, animal blood and laboratory sundries to anybody who will pay for them. In the USA they even have the nerve to sell pet toys to the public. T
